One of the most important things is to learn to read music. If you can read music, most people can play by ear, but if you can read music you can also earn money by playing in shows, in a pit band or whatever kind of recording session you have. They have a chart in front of you and you can read it. You won't be one dimensional.

I hated to read. My mother could not get me to read. I'm going through the same thing with my daughter now. I love to read now, but I don't remember reading.

I've always assumed that my parents and my in-laws would live with me when I get older and have children. I just assume it will happen and that it's the right way to do things. It's a deeply Indian custom, that you kind of inherit your parents and your spouse's parents and you take care of them eventually.

I'd already made the decision before I'd even read it-just because it was John Sayles. Then when I read it, the themes were actually themes that have been a big part of my life.

He had read much, if one considers his long life; but his contemplation was much more than his reading. He was wont to say that if he had read as much as other men he should have known no more than other men.

I've been told that life isn't worth living. People tease you. That's going to happen in life. If you think that your life is horrible, what about those who's parents beat them? Starve them? What about those who have never had a real life, other than on the street? Your life isn't that bad.

If we measure our success as parents solely by what our children become, there is no inviolable guarantee in Scripture that we will experience absolute success on those terms...The true measure of success for Christian parents is the parents' own character. To the degree that we have followed God's design for parenting, we have succeeded as parents before God.

I have this theory that people in Hollywood don't read. They read 'Vanity Fair' and then consider themselves terribly well read. I think I can basically write about anybody without getting caught.

Like everybody at that age, I read an awful lot of pulp fiction. But at the same time, I also read quite a bit of history and read that as much for pleasure as part of a curriculum.

When I was five years old, my parents gave me a magic chest. I learned to cast spells, although of a childish kind, before I had learned to read and write.

I loved to read and to write, but then something happened. As I made my way through school, I kept getting handed books to read that didn't excite me and didn't even remotely connect to the realities of my life.

I'm enrolled right now in the School of Life. I deferred from Sarah Lawrence, so I think I'm going to try to find time to go there. But for now, no. I read all the time, though. I read a book a week. I try to keep my mind working.

I have said it often and I will say it again: I believe you learn to read when you are young, then read to learn for the rest of your life.

I didnt have the kind of childhood or family life that would have given me any perspective on what a happy home or relationship would feel like. So I havent had as much success in my relationships as I would have liked. You cant live your life blaming your failures on your parents and what they did or didnt do for you. Youre dealt the cards that youre dealt. I realized it was a waste of time to be angry at my parents and feel sorry for myself.
