I think there has been progress in terms of a growth of people's knowledge of the game and a feeling that the women's game is here to stay. But in reality what are needed is more sponsors and investors with deeper pockets, with a good business plan. I think the people behind the WPS might have delved in a little too quickly without realising quite how much it would cost to run and with perhaps not the best business plan. But the World Cup definitely helped the game and increased the awareness of lots of people.

It was a difficult decision to move back to the States but I wanted to do my bit to really help promote the game and grow the sport in America. It was never the same, though. I never felt the same passion for the game in the States and there were a lot of headaches, a lot of obstacles to overcome - it didn't just run itself for the love of the game because soccer is not the No. 1 sport as it is in Europe. It was tough and though I tried to do the right thing, looking at things now with the league suspended and many of the teams I have played in folded, I wish I remained in Europe.

Its kind of frustrating. I play with Eniola Aluko, an English player, and we were talking just the other day about how sad it is that England really doesnt have a womens league because they have some incredible players, some of the best players in the world. And they dont have a womens league! Germany, Japan, has a womens league. WPS is what American players have talked about for years and fortunately we have great support for soccer, we can make this our livelihood, and we can put every ounce of time and money and passion into our sport, which is also our job.

We dont want to lose because of our competitive nature, which is at an incredibly high level. No one wants to lose, period. It should hurt, it should sting, and you dont want to feel that feeling again. I dont think its very tough to pick yourself up because you go into the next game and you dont want to feel that feeling again. To me its quite easy. I have a problem with players who dont take the loss personally. At a professional level you should, its our job, its our livelihood, its who we are at this level. Every loss should be taken that personal.

YESTERDAY, n. The infancy of youth, the youth of manhood, the entire past of age. But yesterday I should have thought me blest To stand high-pinnacled upon the peak Of middle life and look adown the bleak And unfamiliar foreslope to the West, Where solemn shadows all the land invest And stilly voices, half-remembered, speak Unfinished prophecy, and witch-fires freak The haunted twilight of the Dark of Rest. Yea, yesterday my soul was all aflame To stay the shadow on the dial's face At manhood's noonmark! Now, in God His name I chide aloud the little interspace Disparting me from Certitude, and fain Would know the dream and vision ne'er again. --Baruch Arnegriff It is said that in his last illness the poet Arnegriff was attended at different times by seven doctors.

FOOL, n. A person who pervades the domain of intellectual speculation and diffuses himself through the channels of moral activity. He is omnific, omniform, omnipercipient, omniscience, omnipotent. He it was who invented letters, printing, the railroad, the steamboat, the telegraph, the platitude and the circle of the sciences. He created patriotism and taught the nations war --founded theology, philosophy, law, medicine and Chicago. He established monarchical and republican government. He is from everlasting to everlasting --such as creation's dawn beheld he fooleth now. In the morning of time he sang upon primitive hills, and in the noonday of existence headed the procession of being. His grandmotherly hand was warmly tucked-in the set sun of civilization, and in the twilight he prepares Man's evening meal of milk-and-morality and turns down the covers of the universal grave. And after the rest of us shall have retired for the night of eternal oblivion he will sit up to write a histor
