Ego means a person’s sense of their own value and importance. Some people have a loud and vocal ego, which is very evident when you interact with them. On the other hand, some people have a subtle ego, which is latent in them and comes to the fore, when the need arises. You end up hurting someone’s ego when you belittle or berate them and make them feel inferior to you.
Hurting someone’s ego unnecessarily is of no good. In the words of Muhammad Iqbal, “A wrong concept misleads the understanding; a wrong deed degrades the whole man, and may eventually demolish the structure of human ego.” Actors, actresses, statesman, politicians and other celebrities who have acquired fame are known to possess lots of ego, without which they are incomplete. In this context, the words of Tom Lehrer, “An actress must never leave her ego- without it she has any talent.”
