Self esteem is often referred to as the holding of a high opinion of one’s self, thinking high of one’s self. Every individual is entitled to hold an opinion about him. It is almost imperative to have a high level of self esteem. It helps us to feel good about our own abilities and capacities. It enables us to grow and develop in our lives and also to attract positive things towards oneself. Achievers are not born great but they become great by rigorous planning of short term and long term goals and having a high level of self image and self esteem. Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one's self-esteem. That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily. In the words of Margret Thatcher “Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and importance, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”
