Greed is the desire to attain wealth and money in excess, for personal use. Greed is a negative quality like lust and gluttony and also features in the list of seven deadly sins, as mentioned in the Christian mythology. Greed is an extreme desire to possess wealth, status and power. Greed drives someone to even adopt evil means for possession of power. P.J. O’Rourke had once remarked, “Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.”
Greed is an inappropriate and unjustified expectation. The desire to make money is good, but to expect in excess and then making efforts to make lots of money through the wrong means sums up to greed. Erich Fromm had once remarked, “Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.”
