Its idea of ''production value'' is spending a million dollars dressing up a story that any good writer would throw away. Its vision of the rewarding movie is a vehicle for some glamour-puss with two expressions and eighteen changes of costume, or for some male idol of the muddled millions with a permanent hangover, six worn-out acting tricks, the build of a lifeguard, and the mentality of a chicken-strangler.

There is a stigma in Hollywood towards soap operas and soap opera actors. It really ticks me off, because there are a lot of good actors on soaps. It's the ones with the biggest egos and insecurities. They thumb their noses at soaps. Well, I'll put it up against any acting training school you want. You learn about how cameras are positioned, lighting and production. It was the best thing that could have happened to me.

My favorite musical...it used to be when I was growing up, Miss Saigon, but I dont know, I dont really like it anymore. You know, my favorite musical is Assassins. I really enjoyed the recent production of it at Studio 54. It was originally produced by Playwrights Horizons. Its a Stephen [Sondheim] musical, its all about a bunch of assassins through history.

Not really but I did end up auditioning for a Broadway show. It's kind of a sad story - I did go through a whole audition process which ended with a phone call: We have good news and bad news, the good news is that you got the part and the bad news is that the production is getting cancelled. So there you have it, I was almost on Broadway.

Theater is the most enriching and thrilling thing to do as an actor. It trumps movies and all that other stuff. People say, 'You must love the instant feedback,' and we're all attention whor..s for sure, that's why we choose this profession. But it goes beyond that: There's something magical about a shared experience in a theater, with actors and an audience. I don't know if the audience members realize just how huge a part they play in a production. How they are determines how we are, and when it all works, it's magical.

My mother certainly grew up in an world where homos..uality, I think, was equated with weakness. I don't think she feels that way now. But I remember a time when I was doing a community theater production in Raleigh and I went to lunch with my mom and a friend who was a doctor, I believe. Afterward my mom communicated to me that the doctor sort of warned her, 'The theater is a place where there are a lot of homos..uals.' Thankfully, for whatever reason, when I heard that, I thought, That's fu..ed-up. But what kind of number would that have done on me if I were gay?

We have continued reason to express our profound gratitude to the Great Creator of All Things for numberless benefits conferred upon us as a people. Blessed with genial seasons, the husbandman has his garners filled with abundance, and the necessaries of life, not to speak of its luxuries, abound in every direction. While in some other nations steady and industrious labor can hardly find the means of subsistence, the greatest evil which we have to encounter is a surplus of production beyond the home demand, which seeks, and with difficulty finds, a partial market in other regions.
