A man misinterprets by assuming that a woman's need to talk about feelings in order to feel better indicates inferior intelligence. He doesn't understand the crucial role talking plays in her life. He thinks she must be incapable of solving her problems and assumes that she is either incompetent, emotionally disturbed, or simply a being of lesser intelligence. None of the above is true. A man may make these judgments because he does not understand that a mature adult woman needs to talk about feelings if she is to cope with stress and feel intimacy in her relationships. In a similar way, women don't realize that a mature adult man needs to feel appreciated for the things he does.
