Tears are basically used to express sorrow or melancholy over some depressing or sorrowful event. When we cry, we shed tears. Tears are a way of expressing emotions that don’t speak for themselves. But each drop of tear that one sheds is precious and should not be wasted on someone who does not deserve our tears or emotions. According to Charles Peguy, “A word is not the same with one writer as with another. One tears it from his guts. The other pulls it out of his overcoat pocket.” We are also known to shed tears of joy to indicate great happiness and bliss, especially if the bliss comes after lots of hard work and adversities. Some of the greatest feats or accomplishments require sweat, tears and toil in order to be accomplished successfully. In the words of Arthur Golden, “Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.”
