I don't know about liberal bias, but people of a liberal mentality are probably attracted in greater numbers to the arts than people of a conservative mentality.

It's the same with visual arts, you have some really cool, wonderful striking images that make you think and then again you have wonderful striking images that just take you away from the existing world for a second. And I like the latter a bit more.

Diplomacy is a disguised war, in which states seek to gain by barter and intrigue, by the cleverness of arts, the objectives which they would have to gain more clumsily by means of war.

Diplomacy quotes
I have had vocal training, at Cal Arts we had very extensive vocal training, it's an hour and a half per class of sticking out your tongue, exploring your soft palate, all that. It's proven to come in handy all the time. You learn all the tools you have, your body is your greatest asset.

The hardest of all the arts to speak of is music, because music has no meaning to speak of

If photography is allowed to stand in for art in some of its functions it will soon supplant or corrupt it completely thanks to the natural support it will find in the stupidity of the multitude. It must return to its real task, which is to be the servant of the sciences and the arts, but the very humble servant, like printing and shorthand which have neither created nor supplanted literature.

Stupidity quotes
I love it. I LOVE it! I love acting, being paid to be creative. I've always been really passionate about the arts. But I also constantly yo-yo between wanting to do this for a long time, wanting to achieve a certain level of respect in this industry, and then at the other end of the scale wanting to run for the hills screaming 'this is terrifying and I want out.'

It is not so very important for a person to learn facts. For that he does not really need a college. He can learn them from books. The value of an education is a liberal arts college is not learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think something that cannot be learned from textbooks.

Books quotes
In fifth grade I started out writing simple raps and bringing them to school and everyone thought they were hot. I used to spit in the lunchline all the time. I think I even got free milk out of it one time. I remember I had to do a project on a book we read in my 6th grade language arts class. I wrote a rap. I got an A. I guess I've been a beast since day one.

I'm so happy that my costumes have found a home here in Melbourne, my home town, where I know they will be cared for and preserved. Its just such an honour that the Performing Arts Collection wanted it all. What I imagine people will want to see is the wear and tear, the ingrained make-up after fifty shows, where the audio-pack rubs these are things that for me, bring costumes to life.

The science which teacheth arts and handicrafts is merely science for the gaining of a living; but the science which teacheth deliverance from worldly existence, is not that the true science?

Visit the Navy-Yard, and behold a marine, such a man as an American government can make, or such as it can make a man with its black arts a mere shadow and reminiscence of humanity, a man laid out alive and standing, and already, as one may say, buried under arms with funeral accompaniments.

Even before Europe was united in an economic level or was conceived at the level of economic interests and trade, it was culture that united all the countries of Europe. The arts, literature, music are the connecting link of Europe.

The present government is very insistent that business sponsorship should replace government sponsorship of the arts. Business sponsorship won't happen unless you make tax concessions, which they won't.

Cinema is most totalitarian of the arts. All energy and sensation is sucked up into the skull, a cerebral erection, skull bloated with blood. Caligula wished a single neck for all his subjects that he could behead a kingdom with one blow. Cinema is this transfoming agent. The body exists for the sake of the eyes; it becomes a dry stalk to support these two soft insatiable jewels.

There's a high school in Camden, New Jersey, I call the Jill Scott School. It's the Camden Creative Arts High School. Those teachers and kids are so passionate about what they do, and 98 percent of the senior class went on to college.
