It is a study of principles of valid reasoning and correct logic. Logic is required in intellectual activities. Logic examines the general forms that an argument may take. Logic determines which of these forms are valid and the forms which are only fallacies. Logic is involved in the study of philosophy, mathematics and augmentation theory. In the words of Antoine de Saint- Exupery, “A civilization is a heritage of beliefs, customs, and knowledge slowly accumulated in the course of centuries, elements difficult at times to justify by logic, but justifying themselves as paths when they lead somewhere, since they open up for man his inner distance.” Logic was developed as a sphere of interest by Aristotle and formed a subject of study in all ancient civilizations in the Indian subcontinent, China and Greece. Logic was a part of the classic trivium. Logic is basically of two types- inductive logic and deductive logic. Charles Sanders Pierce had once remarked, “Bad reasoning as well as good reasoning is possible; and this fact is the foundation of the practical side of logic.”
