Resentment is the feeling of extreme hatred or disliking that you bear against someone. The feeling exists when there is no love lost between you and someone else or you are at loggerheads with someone. Resentment is a negative feeling because when you resent someone, you never give the person a chance to express his opinions or viewpoints in front of you. Resentment originates from the French word “ressentir” with re being a prefix and “sentir” means to feel- derived from the Latin word “sentire”. The word when used in English language has become synonymous with anger, spite and bitterness. Resentment for someone rises when a tragic and disturbing experience is felt again or comes to the mind, all of a sudden. Joan Lunden had once remarked, “Holding on to anger, resentment and hurt only gives you tense muscles, a headache and a sore jaw from clenching your teeth. Forgiveness gives you back the laughter and the lightness in your life.”
