To say that a man is your Friend, means commonly no more than this, that he is not your enemy. Most contemplate only what would be the accidental and trifling advantages of Friendship, as that the Friend can assist in time of need by his substance, or his influence, or his counsel. Even the utmost goodwill and harmony and practical kindness are not sufficient for Friendship, for Friends do not live in harmony merely, as some say, but in melody.

Theres something inside me waiting to explode, I am writing this now to let you know. Every heart has a song, and I found mine, It was there all along it was just a matter of time. The beautiful melody thats from the heart, it was always there right from the start. It holds all my hopes and dreams, It sings about the person within me. Everyone who searches will find, and you will know its not just a simple song with simple lines.

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.

The first year was very difficult. I found it so hard because people kept saying in interviews, 'You must be so thrilled, This must be so exciting, a dream come true.' I always felt that I wasn't grateful enough. I was really confused and shell-shocked. I wasn't used to the kind of pressures that were on me. I was continually trying to work out whether this was where I should be, how I should behave or if I should be in this industry...all that kind of stuff. By the end of season one, I was in a bad place where I felt like I had lost myself. I had a little bit of a breakdown. I called my parents sobbing my eyes out, saying, 'I don't know who I am anymore.'

Until about sixth grade I was pretty quiet and wouldn't consider myself a class clown during those years. Once I got into middle school I was definitely one of the funny ones. I was always doing some type of weird public prank, dressing up in strange costumes, or doing characters. I was definitely a weirdo. I don't know where it came from. It just kind of happen out of nowhere. I think if you talk to people that I went to school with they'd probably tell you I was a bit of a class clown.

I have been obsessed with Judy Garland since I was 12. I don't know why. It's really weird how I got into her. I had to do this project in seventh grade on decades. My decade was the '60s, I think, the decade she died. Some people said that she killed herself and some people said that it was an accidental overdose. For some reason, I got all Nancy Drew-obsessed with trying to figure out how she died. Now I know everything about her, in a creepy way. My room was covered with pictures of her.

In grade school I was smart, but I didn't have any friends. In high school, I quit being smart and started having friends.

Life is an error-making and an error-correcting process, and nature in marking man's papers will grade him for wisdom as measured both by survival and by the quality of life of those who survive.

Christmas Eve was a night of song that wrapped itself about you like a shawl. But it warmed more than your body. It warmed your heart... filled it, too, with melody that would last forever.

Its different. We try to keep it as open to development as possible. Sometimes someone will bring in an idea, other times well just improvise together, whether its in front of an audience or during rehearsal. And then we take notes on what seems to work, where we can go from there, talk about it, play some more. Once we have the seed of an idea, which could be a simple little melody or a mood or a beat, and then the other two kind of react to that in a session and then everyone starts collaborating. And people say, you should play this bass line, or you should play with less notes. We kind of direct each other. It's usually a real collective thing, a democracy, like a conversation.

When I was real little my parents raised me on classic rock, so The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton were what I got started on. Bob Marley too, my parents were always bumpin reggae and to this day I still listen to a lot of reggae. I started listening to rap in like 4th grade... probably would have started sooner but I didn't have a cool older brother or sister like a lot of other kids.

This is something I love. One thing about me, I'm gonna be hip-hop forever, until I'm 80 or whatever. I think for me, it's just that you have to balance life and really understand that when you're a parent and you're doing your thing, you have to draw a line some way and respect what your kids may look at later on in life when they hear you talking. I don't always like to talk about negativity or guns or drugs, even though I came from that. I'm giving you some movie shit, but at the end of the day, I do want to show a positive side, so when my kids get older they can say, "My dad made versatile music. He didn't just stay in one box. He was able to be a poet, for real. He wasn't just one-sided with it and he shocked the world." I did that, and I'm a bad rap motherfu..er.

Grades are a problem. On the most general level, they're an explicit acknowledgment that what you're doing is insufficiently interesting or rewarding for you to do it on your own. Nobody ever gave you a grade for learning how to play, how to ride a bicycle, or how to kiss. One of the best ways to destroy love for any of these activities would be through the use of grades, and the coercion and judgment they represent. Grades are a cudgel to bludgeon the unwilling into doing what they don't want to do, an important instrument in inculcating children into a lifelong subservience to whatever authority happens to be thrust over them.

I believe I was in 8th grade with my friend Nick, who actually went on to produce for me and record my tracks throughout my high school career. We burned it down, and being that we were young a.. little eighth graders, got extremely stoned, and he made a beat and I wrote lyrics. It was called "Liddle Webby" I believe, because that was my first rap name. Lord knows where that track is. I think it has been lost forever...which probably insn't a bad thing because it was during that awkward voice stage during puberty.

Love is the only bow of life's dark cloud. It is the Morning and Evening Star. It shines upon the cradle of the babe, and sheds its radiance upon the quiet tomb. It is the Mother of Art, inspirer of poet, patriot, and philosopher. It is the air and light of every heart, builder of every home, kinder of every fire on every hearth, It was the first dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody. Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to joy, and makes right royal kings of common clay.

The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating... ...and you finish off as an orgasm.

Dear Bad Kid In School, Please don't take your education for granted. It may not seem like a big deal to skip a few classes or get a few bad grades, but it is a big deal. If you don't give your all it'll haunt you in the future. Take it from me someone who used to think and act the same way. One day you will look back and think man I should of did better in school. The reality of life hits you hard when you become an adult. Believe me your not gonna go far without a good education. So skipping that class and taking that bad grade may seem okay now. Later it won't be okay it'll be to late.

I really prided myself on my fashionable dress. I had a very independent streak and thought, Im going to dress super cool and different than everybody else and everybody is going to be envious of my cool clothes. But looking back, I realize that nobody was envious and Im sure they were laughing. I really prided myself when I was in eighth grade for not owning a pair of jeans, and I never wore jeans for a year and a half. I wore a tie to school every day, although I didnt have to. But then I started moving into kind of like new wave kind of style and was really into thin ties and really baggy pants. And I remember when that movie Pretty In Pink came out, some people in my school said you totally remind me of that guy, Ducky. And I thought that was a compliment.
