Government, obviously, cannot fill a child's emotional needs. Nor can it fill his spiritual and moral needs. Government is not a father or mother. Government has never raised a child, and it never will.

When I hear traditional family values raised, I hear that effort once again to re-establish the man as head and master of his family. Who had the, not only the right, but the obligation to discipline his wife and children to keep them in line?

My parents told me in the very beginning as a young child when I raised the question about segregation and racial discrimination, they told me not to get in the way, not to get in trouble, not to make any noise. But we had people that were educated. We had teachers, we had high school principals, we had people teaching in colleges and university in Tuskegee, Alabama. But they were told they failed the so-called literacy test.

My life did change from Titanic, and for the better in many ways, but I was only 21, and there were some things that were so tough. I just thank God I never stuck a needle in my arm, or snorted cocaine or was found drunk in a gutter, I never, ever even skimmed the edges of that world. And that's really because of my parents, how they raised me and my two sisters. But my life is so drastically different now from what it was then, my day-to-day life. I have my two kids and my marriage, and it feels like it happened to another person, which makes it easier to think through.

I was raised by my mom. It was definitely a struggle competing with my brother who is only one year older than me. He wanted to be my older brother but I looked older than him. We were competing for my mom's attention. There was so much tension between us that my mom backed away from us. It was so emotionally out of control.

Because I grew up in southern California I had access to a high level of professionalism in school, acting classes and summer theater work. The level of student competition was inspiring and raised my game. For instance my high school acting teacher had roomed with Michael Chekov in New York, and worked in movies and TV.

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. -Romans 6:3-5

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers in the world. You gave life, carried in the womb for nine months, well cared for, raised the child as necessary so it is appropriate that grant awards all made by our mother to us.

The moment you raised your sword, I felt that deep, innate loathing ignite within my core¦the unreserved resentment of human nature. You were the very embodiment of the loathing that dwells deep inside us. But I have to admit, we were once very much like you

There are many people weve seen lost in this business because other people havent stopped to make sure theyre OK, you know? People are aware when others are breaking, but in this town they dont tend to stop and help them. In the end, it costs a life. Part of the sadness in this business is that there are a lot of people in it looking for approval and love. Im lucky because I was raised with so much love that I can take a lot of knocks and not take anything personally.

When I was real little my parents raised me on classic rock, so The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton were what I got started on. Bob Marley too, my parents were always bumpin reggae and to this day I still listen to a lot of reggae. I started listening to rap in like 4th grade... probably would have started sooner but I didn't have a cool older brother or sister like a lot of other kids.

I still live in Kentucky. I was born and raised in Kentucky, and I still live there. I think that's the best thing for me...to kind of keep a level head. When I go back home, I have a completely normal life. I have my friends, I'm on a basketball team, I go to the mall, and we just do normal kid things. It's kind of nice to kind of escape the whole movie world and just become a normal kid again.

I was raised in the Jewish tradition, taught never to marry a Gentile woman, shave on a Saturday night and, most especially, never to shave a Gentile woman on a Saturday night.

My parents moved to Los Angeles when I was really young, but I spent every summer with my grandparents, and I'd stay with my grandfather on the farm in Longview. He was retired from the railroad, and he had a small farm with some cows and some pigs. I remember part of my youth was feeding hogs and plowing fields and stuff, so that's apart of me. And my parents raised me to say 'sir' and 'ma'am,' to open doors, things like that. That's the way I was brought up. Also, unfortunately, I was taught not to question too much. I didn't really question my mom and dad. That's usually what they told me to do.
